If you have some experience with growing everything besides your typical house plant, will help this book. But be warned. . . . If you have no experience, you could be lost in a world of jargon. You need some simple Knowlegde of growing plants first. I have taken only a high school horticulture class 25 years ago as my experience (in addition to 10 + years of basic vegetables). I was able to make sense of the book, but my husband without the “classroom” experience and a lot in the garden was a little lost without me to explain some details. I honestly do not think it is a good “beginner” book for cultivation. You really need to help someone along the way, unless you want to have a lot of trial and error.
