I was charged with possession of marijuana in Virginia and I want to know what my options are?
To make the story short, they found weed on the driver (including seeds, leaves, etc.) on his lap, and a very small amount on the other passenger. There was also a packed bowl that she had hid in the car, which the cops found. I had no marijuana on me and none of us had started smoking yet, because they pulled us over before anyone got a chance. I don’t think this matters, but I wasn’t even planning on smoking because we were on our way to a friend’s apartment and I wasn’t in the mood. The cops never asked me or the other passenger who the weed belonged to, but were both given the same charge. What am I looking at here, fines, classes, community service?

Va is a police state ,I know bed newz in the house 757. Plead not gulity do community service and if its your first charge they will expunge it from your record in a year. Been there done that .
Your defiantly looking at paying fines (a lot) and most likely community service. You might get jail time, you will probably have to have regular drug screening for a while.
So in the future, I suggestion if you want to stay away from the police, you should choose your friends and the people you hang out with more wisely.
I’ll be praying for you and all folks like yourself living in the States and being suppressed by big right wing American government for possessing something that is as harmless as a cup of coffee.
I’m from California where the law is different. Marijuana is decriminalized here and if caught with under an ounce of weed all we get is a ticket. Over an ounce would mean an arrest.
I would suggest you write your member of congress your feelings about Weeds medicinal values and that you want to get it decriminalized.
There are countries out there were weed is legal like the Netherlands for example. Amsterdam.
Seriously though I don’t see the point why weed is so frowned upon by the conservatives in the U.S. It’s the only form of medicine that helps with depression. That’s probably why your friends smoke it, it’s because they might be self-medicating themselves. There is nothing wrong with that and our constitutional right states that we have the right to the pursuit of happiness. When smoking weed you guys weren’t hurting anyone. Yet you are being punished since the U.S. is a very suppressing government.
The next step for you is that you find yourself a good lawyer. A felony on your record would make it impossible for you to get a decent job. You need a lawyer right away to help bail you out of this. It’s possible that charges against you will be dropped. If Charges are dropped you won’t have to put on your resume for a job that you were convicted of a felony. You need a lawyer fast. I can’t overemphasize this enough to you.
Personally, the United States taboo on Marijuana is one of the reasons why this isn’t such a great country after all. We might be a big capitalist society that has lots of unevenly distributed wealth. But socially and politically this country if flawed. Weed being illegal is a great example of this. Why wouldn’t government want us to have access to a drug that makes us happy and content for a change? Why, because it’s not taxable and the government would lose money if it were legal. It’s a substance that grows in abundance in nature and can be easily cultivated.
But I’ll be praying for you. God, I hope you will be alright. You might want to consider moving to a State that has decriminalized Weed like California for instance or some State in the North East where it’s OK if it’s under an ounce.
You also should seriously consider getting your Proposition 215 card for Medical Weed. That way next time you get pulled over you are not doing anything wrong in the eyes of the law.
Viginia is a commonwealth state with one the strictists marijuana laws in the country! but i think you got lucky though sometimes a cop might be a prick and use the term guilt by association!Your freinds on the other hand might have some serious consequences to face there! Oh yeah ev1co the weed laws arent that bad in the other states!
