How Weed Won The West

In the follow-up to his ground-breaking documentary ‘American Drug War,’ filmmaker Kevin Booth traces the fight against Federal drug regulation in the State of California. A public majority has spoken and said yes to states rights, allowing for the use of medicinal marijuana and opening up a new front in controversial medicinal ‘dispensaries.’ While users herald the freedom of legally-licensed “weed,” powerful forces at the DEA and law enforcement haven’t given up their federal enforcement power yet. Many dispensaries have been raided, targeting their distribution of marijuana and challenging their authority to rise into legitimate business. In the backdrop of this public dispute is the Dark Alliance– where governments handle the volume of drug trafficking and work with cartels and drug dealers to manage the drug flow. Just like the prohibition of alcohol, drugs have thrived on their illicit appeal, and doomed millions of non-violent offenders to incarceration and prosecution. Now, those swearing by the healing power of medicinal marijuana as well as those who simply refuse to be outlawed by a hypocritical rogue government are daring to stand up and declare that the violence, corruption and uncontrolled flow of drugs is due to the prohibition of the substance, not the substance itself. Big Pharma has put millions of non-”drug” users on hallucinogenic prescription drugs and instituted new forms of addiction and dependency, challenging our outdated notions that is only …

Tacoma Medical Marijuana Dispensaries to Stay Open After All.
September 1st, 2011

The city’s eight medical marijuana dispensaries had been given until Saturday to close doors face fines and penalties that could include jail time. With the deadline looming, patients and providers gathered to protest at City Hall on Tuesday. And their voices were heard. Hundreds voiced their frustration, saying the city had no right to take away their rights to obtain medical marijuana. The issue here was over the interpretation of the vague state law on medical marijuana law. The law, which was first drafted back in 1998, states dispensary operators can only provide medical marijuana to “one patient at any one time.” Marijuana activists argue that the law actually gives providers license to see more than one patient as long as only one patient is seen at a time. But on Tuesday the Tacoma City Council sided with the protesters to allow dispensary operators to continue selling medical marijuana. “We are very very happy and very very pleased,” said one proponent. “Unfortunately this a band aid, and it’s a small fix on a bigger issue. But for right, now we’re going to be allowed to operate.” Tacoma’s dispensaries are estimated provide mediccal marijuana to more than 10000 patients in the area. Many of them were present at the protest, and said they were relieved by the city council’s decision.
Isn’t legalising all drugs the quickest way to reduce the crime-rate, get rid of street gangs, and empty jails?

admin Tax it heavily, and make them available at legal dispensaries.
Only keep the most dangerous, harmful drugs illegal, such as meth and heroine.
I’m not advocating this idea necessarily, this is more of a thought-experiment. At the moment I’m only really for legalising marijuana. I think I might get some interesting responses though.
Do you think doctors are a little too lenient when prescribing medicinal marijuana?
July 21st, 2011
admin Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for medicinal marijuana and/or legalization but the fact that doctors are prescribing it for people with sprained ankles or *cough cough* “back pain” is a little sketchy IMO. Also, you would think the dispensaries would be a little more professional looking: they look like the damn coffee shops in Amsterdam. Is that how our country should represent our decision to legalize medicinal marijuana? You don’t see pharmacies selling vicodin and oxycontin in jars with creative names do you? It just doesn’t seem very professional to me… Don’t get me wrong: I’m pretty liberal. It just doesn’t seem very professional and it doesn’t seem like it is taken very seriously. Maybe I’m just weird haha
…I live in Michigan. I just watched “Super High Me” with Doug Benson haha
