Going to a new Doc. Should I tell him I smoke marijuana for chronic headach relief?

I have had bad headaches all my life and have been treated on and off by various neurologists, etc. I am going to a new doctor tomorrow and am not sure if I should tell him that I smoke pot several times a week to help get rid of the head pain.

I only recently started doing that (about 2 years ago) and I never would have believed it could help the pain so much. I was totally “anti drug” all my life and have never done any drug stronger than the marijuana.

For me it’s not a “gateway drug” or anything like that. It helps the pain A LOT and the side effects are that it relaxes me and it makes me hungry. I like the relaxing part but not the hungry part!

I just want to know if I should tell my doctor so he knows or if not. He can’t do anything to me or turn me in, can he?

I know it’s illegal. I don’t sell it, don’t endanger anyone doing it, don’t advocate it for recreaction purposes only
I wouldn’t be asking his permission or approval as I intend to keep doing it since it works so well. Just wondering if there is any good reason to disclose my self-treatment.

I’m liking the varied answers. Thanks all!

California voters, Question regarding Prop 19, which is likely going to pass?

This year California has a proposition that would make marijuana legal (Prop 19)
If this proposition passes and you voted for it, how will you feel when the Obama administration sues the state for violating the supremacy clause of the US constitution?

Just so you folks know, I am opposed to Prop 19, I just want to know what your reaction would be if / when Obama gets involved.
@high beams
I know what prop 19 promises and I know what the arguments for and against it is.
My question has nothing to do with what I think, it has to do with how you will feel if or when Obama sues.
Obviously you have smoked to much pot to even be able to read the question, thanks for the diatribe
Some folks may think I am making something up so here is the link to the article that prompted my question.

@Lance
I am against it because it is a gateway drug. Perhaps you failed to see that I even said that it would likely pass and I also posted a link to the article that made me ask the question.

Why are Republicans and the Pharmacy Industry afraid of using Marijuana for Medical reasons?

Please don’t go into rants about “How Dangerous” or “It’s stronger Today” When I can pick up any newspaper and find mention of how Alcohol has screwed up someone’s life. Or Killed somebodies Family Member.
And Alcohol is the REAL Gateway Drug! Everybody (almost that is) got their First Drink from one of Dad’s Beer’s or Mom’s Martini’s. “And that was when they were little and didn’t know any better”.
Not 1 Person (outside of alergic reaction) has Ever Overdosed (unlike Alcohol which has the claim of killing more people then some countries have with war.) from Marijuana.
So if Responcible People can use (Pills from Drug Companies, Tobacco, Alcohol) things that will kill us if we take too much aka miss use them,
Why the Big Stink over Marijuana?
(not too mention grow Hemp for fuel!)
I conceed that it was ignorant of me too pick on one party and not all of them as I am a Libratarian. So too all on the Right who feel this is Pure Corperate Steer Droppings!
(Please refer too differance between a Bull and Steer!)
And I thank you for your Support!

Alcohol is a gateway drug, too

I’m actually not too pleased with this video—the way I presented my ideas was rhetorically fuzzy and just generally not rigorous—but I made it, so I figured I’d put it up here anyway. Feel free to criticize, I’ll probably agree with you. But I think my larger point still stands: Even if pot smokers are far more likely to use harder drugs than non-pot smokers, drinkers are far more likely to use harder drugs than non-drinkers; therefore, alcohol is also a “gateway drug.” Here’s a link to the polling I mentioned: www.fivethirtyeight.com

Fox News Marijuana Straw Man on Legalization?

125+ MORE examples of Fox News Bias at www.youtube.com With a kind of marijuana legalization on the ballot in California as Proposition 19 this November, it’s not surprising to see our friends at Fox picking up the pace on the marijuana misinformation in a series called “Going to Pot” that included a segment rebutting a straw man argument for marijuana legalization with a very weak anti-legalization argument and went on to spread a series of anti-marijuana myths while purporting to debunk pro-legalization “myths” as I show in this video. The clips I use of Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade interviewing Bishop Ron Allen come from a segment on the Fox News program “Fox and Friends” broadcast on August 28, 2010, which is available online at www.youtube.com The image I use of my July 2007 video titled “Fox News Gets Reefer Madness Over So-Called Killer Marijuana” comes from the YouTube player page at www.youtube.com The images I use of “Yes on 19″ information on California marijuana arrests come from the webpage at yeson19.com The charts I use of showing racial discrimination in California marijuana arrests come from the Drug Policy Alliance webpage at www.drugpolicy.org And, finally, the fact sheet I show debunking marijuana myths about being overly potent and a “gateway drug” comes from the Drug Policy Alliance webpage at drugpolicy.org

This sould be the offical Game of 420. Or is it 4:20, time to play PotVilla! No Justin Bieber, don’t play this game.

Colorado Governor Candidates Debate Legalization of Marijuana

Mixed signals from Colorado Governor candidates as you will see below. With the issue becoming more and more a national debate and advancing from the state level it will be interesting to see how each of the candidates stance affects the election results.

As legal pot in California begins to look like a real possibility, and Democratic operatives weigh the benefits of legalization initiatives in 2012, pot legalization advocates in Colorado are starting to flex their political muscles.

Denver-based SAFER (Safer Alternative For Enjoyable Recreation) released its Colorado 2010 ballot guide on Wednesday, and the group is endorsing American Constitution Party candidate Tom Tancredo for Governor over Democrat John Hickenlooper and Republican Dan Maes.

Mason Tvert, Executive Director of SAFER, called out Hickenlooper for making a living–Hickenlooper was a bar-owner before becoming Mayor–selling alcohol while he opposed reforming marijuana laws.

“He has yet to explain why it was OK for him to make a fortune selling alcohol, yet it should be a crime for adults to use a far safer substance instead,” Tvert said.

Hickenlooper opposed the 2005 Denver ballot measure that decriminalized possession of small amounts of Marijuana because he considers pot to be a “gateway drug” that often leads to the use of harder drugs.

Tancredo, on the other hand, has stated in the past that he supports the legalization of Marijuana as a way of quelling violence on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Marijuana Addiction Symptoms and Signs

Perhaps no drug has invited as much heated debate and ferocious argument as marijuana. Marijuana has been a source of fierce pro and against positions mainly because it is considered by many to be the least harmful of drugs; and whether or not marijuana addiction is an actual threat is debated as often.Effects of marijuana: Marijuana is harmful because it is a drug like any other, even if it is the least harmful. More importantly, it is considered a “gateway drug”, in that this is the stepping stone to higher drugs. The cream of marijuana addicts are the youth, in the 18-25 age group.Short term effects of marijuana: The most important short-term effect of marijuana is that it produces a feeling of well-being in the one who has used it. It is because of this reason that one of its legal uses is as a pain-alleviating drug in patients undergoing chemotherapy. But being a mind-altering drug, it also produces the effect of temporary distortion of perception, or what addicts term the “buzz”. It acts on the central nervous system in the same way as all other drugs by plugging on some receptors. By doing this, it prepares the mind for the admission of more powerful drugs.Long term effect: Long term effects of marijuana primarily concern the mind. It makes dependency easy and inevitable. Long Marijuana addicts have a major problem in the use of the drug, because they soon try to use the drug as a cover for their weaknesses and fallacies. Marijuana has a tendency to find easy target in those with escapist behavior.Marijuana also has another important effect: it speeds heartbeat, which in some cases can be as much as twice the normal rate. Marijuana addicts are susceptible to memory deterioration over time. They are also prone to losing interest in all matters other than the drug, family and social contacts.Users of marijuana have reported a slowing down of motor responses at the workplace, which means it places workers, whether they do physical or cerebral work, at considerably greater risk. While obviously slowing down productivity, this can translate to being a cause of deaths in the workplace. Marijuana addicts also experience major and sudden changes in weight and appetite.Withdrawal symptoms: These usually include loss of appetite, headache, depression, a craving for the drug again, irritability, anger and restlessness. Although these are far fewer and less intense than those of other drugs, marijuana withdrawal symptoms are significant in themselves.Marijuana treatment: Ironically, marijuana’s not being a conventional, “hard” drug makes its treatment difficult. This is because it is difficult to define the exact line of treatment the patient requires. A marijuana treatment center needs to impart individualized assessment and care. In many cases, the marijuana addict is left to give up on his or her own. Just like how strong determination can sometimes help a person overcome drinking or smoking, at times, marijuana addiction can be kicked too, in the same way. Learn more about the symptoms of marijuana addiction here.In some cases, intervention from marijuana addiction treatment programs is needed. In such cases, the therapist in marijuana rehab centers needs to decide whether inpatient or outpatient care is needed. In many cases, supportive care can go a long way in helping a patient get to the right track. Since most marijuana addicts are those without an independent bent of mind, just avoiding the company of other addicts can be a deterrent.Likewise, marijuana rehabs advice that spirituality can have a soothing effect on the marijuana addict. Other ways of dealing with it can include pursuit of meaningful and purposeful hobbies, listening to music and being in the company of loved ones.
