Because California is full of low-life, douche-bag, tree-hugging hippies who smoke dope all day by the beach. Not that there’s anything wrong with being a low-life, douche-bag, tree-hugging hippy who smokes dope all day by the beach.
It’s not considered the medical marijuana capital (Oregon was the first state to allow it).
However, it does have the most domestic production in the country, and CA accounts for about 14% of pot consumption in the US.
I’m a native Californian, and California has always been considered one of the most liberal states in a lot of ways. I think that has a lot to do with the legends of Hollywood and San Francisco as well, as far as liberalism goes.
Maybe because marijuana is California’s biggest cash crop. That means not retail since MJ is illegal, except for medical use. The proposition that did not pass in California to legalilze marijuana for recreational use was also in 5 other states but no one mentions them. California is the most important economy in the US and the 8th largest in the world. What happens in Calif affects the world.
