Nc Marijuana Misdemeanor?

I will try to explain the situation in the best possible detail.
I’m 18 years old, (still in high school btw, living w/ parents, graduation is affirmative.) and I was detained by police recently for possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana. I was with 3 other people than myself and 3 out of the 4 were detained in a parking lot. Now, I did not have the pot on my person. The only slightly incriminating items in my pocket are a cigarette roller and also a lighter. They were not seized from my possession because I assume they only had probably cause for the weed and did not have the ability to take up my items. No paper in my possession either. I was asked if I contributed money and I responded with a yes because the negotiation of who will complete the deal was already decided in the home of one of my friends.. I did not exchange anything with any person in the location of the deal (which was in a public area, one of the dumbest things you can do other than be a consistant drug user but to each his own) Any way after they get our information i was released upon the arrival of my citation while they had to be released to their parents for being sophomores in high school (15-16 good estimate) i am cited and sent on my way home. I explain the situation to my parents immediately. I just am curious if i should plead not guilty or guilty when I am tried. Speaking to a lawyer would probably be beneficial but I ran into trouble on mid afternoon June 1 ( it is midnight june 2nd as i type this mess) Like i said before the citation is for possession but i did not handle any weed.
Also If anyone could tell me the possible ( I mean likely) punishment. I feel like i have a case but everything is uncertain.
I appreciate serious answers.
Sorry for the jumbled mess of a story. I am quite tired but I’d rather see if yahoo answers can explain how right/wrong i just what the best option would be for me.
