i need to write a paper on a social issue and advocate for its change…?
I’m taking a class on social advocacy and we need to write a paper advocating for change on a social issue “You are to write a description of an advocacy approach for some social issue within the community–poverty, victimization, mental illness, disabilities and injustice.”
I considered using stem cell research, but my professor told me to make sure I can advocate for a change, and I’ve done some research and since Obama has come into office he lifted a ban on stem cell research so it’s not really illegal anymore.
I want to do something interesting and fun but still a social issue. Legalization of marijuana would be awesome, but I don’t think I can argue that it fits into our paper’s criteria…
Can anyone help me?
What about high school bullying (it’s been an issue in the news lately after that poor girl turned to suicide to escape taunting). You could advocate for a change in the way teachers treat such complaints.
Okay, here’s one that would allow you to tie in the marijuana: The drug Oxycontin (oxycodone) being prescribed freely for depression and pain despite the number of people it kills. It’s essentially pure heroin and is one of the worst drugs out there. It’s currently a big issue in Florida, because practically anyone can get a prescription. I’ve now lost 2 cousins to it, and nearly a third. And yet marijuana is illegal?!

How about the sex education issue? There’s a lot that goes with that and I think teens get shut out when it comes to the discussion of what actually gets taught.
