I am applying for the position of Correctional Officer or Deputy Sheriff within San Diego County. I havent used marijuana in 2 years however I have friends and family that have used or do use it still today and I am around it pretty frequently. Will this effect me getting hired or not getting hired?

The past drug use depends on that agencies criteria. Some agencies allow some admitted past drug use depending on the time frame and the type of drug, some agencies don’t allow drug use at all. Check with the agency you’re applying for and ask what their policy is, they should tell you.
Above all when you’re applying, BE HONEST. I know plenty of people that I work with who admitted to smoking marijuana when they were younger and they have become great cops, but if they had lied about it they would have been automatically disqualified from the job search.
Also, when I was hired as an officer, they never asked me any questions about my friends, It doesn’t really matter who you hang out with, it matters who YOU are.
It won’t disqualify you. BUt like the other person said BE HONEST
