Possession of any amount of marijuana in Arizona is a criminal offense, only exception is if you have a doctor’s prescription. Normally to get a cannabis prescription you need to have a serious ailment like cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy or suffering from AIDS and need pot to help counteract the side effects of required medication. From what I understand people suffering from glaucoma or severe arthritis pain may also qualify.

If you’re able to get a cannabis card you then need to find a medicinal marijuana dispensary. As of yet you won’t find marijuana in any pharmacy. Medicinal marijuana is still pretty much an underground deal. Keep in mind even though many states have approved medical marijuana the federal government has not. Clinics are still subject to raids by the DEA and are often denied licenses to operate by many cities.

The major problem with medical marijuana is many people end up getting a prescription for ailments which don’t really qualify under the definitions of the original law. In my home town a marijuana clinic was recently raided. The cops made a BIG deal out of the fact the vast majority of the people observed coming in and out of the clinic before it was raided were young people seemingly without any serious medical conditions. It was also mentioned in the local paper that several infamious big name rappers and other Hollywood types have canibus prescriptions for generic ailments like migrains and back troubles. The coverage of that unfortunate event wasn’t very flattering.
