It’s a bad idea to take this position in an essay. 3rd party studies yield unbiased facts to support the legalization of marijuana. Most studies that paint marijuana in a negative light are from the Nixon-Reagan era and have since been dis-proven.

Eliminate a major source of revenue for organized crime
Create tens of thousands of jobs by creating an industry
Regulate the product for safe consumption
Keep marijuana out of the hands of kids

I agree with not taking a position in your essay. While I might be considered bias due to being a weed smoker, I think you should evaluate both sides of the coin. There are plenty of arguments for both positions.
I think the pros outweigh the cons, but at the end of the day it will end up being the majority rule on this one. And there are most definitely more people in favor of legalization and the % is growing every year. I think it’s up to 14 states now with medical MJ, and I firmly believe that once it hits the 25 mark it will be unstoppable and lead to the general legalization and taxation of the least harmful illegal or legal substance in the world.
Ask you Dr. which is the least harmful of Alc, Tobacco, and MJ, then ask your congressman why it’s illegal.
